Week FourOver the next few months Bela Crochets will be featuring a series of fantastic crocheters. I have interviewed these wonderful makers to help you find new people to follow and to get in touch with other crocheters like yourself. For week four I have interviewed De Shockney, the maker behind Knotty Bliss Boutique
Crocheter: Knotty Bliss BoutiqueGreetings from De Shockney – Knotty Bliss Boutique Hiya! My name is De and I’m a 20 something that loves to make anything and everything with whatever material I can get my hands on. I paint, crochet, sculpt, and so many other things! I love to work abstractly with my artwork most of the time and it’s a nice break while I’m designing new patterns.
InterviewHow did you come up with your business name? I had asked for name suggestions on my facebook and ended up combining a couple different ones to get Knotty Bliss and I knew I was going to put boutique on there. What inspired you to start crocheting? My grandma taught me and she kept pushing me to learn more than she knows so I did. I loved seeing all of the pretty blankets she made when I was younger though. How long have you been crocheting? I’ve been crocheting for roughly 14 years now. I learned at a young age and kept going with it. What was the first thing you ever crocheted? Do you have a picture? I wish I had a picture of it, but I made a little scarf for one of my build-a-bears. I also made it a little matching blanket. Both have been given away since I was young though. What is your favorite thing to crochet? I love making summer clothing, in particular crop tops though because they tend to be quick and easy to customize. How long have you had a crochet business? I have been in business for 2.5 years now on Etsy and about a year on Ravelry. What are the main focuses of your crochet business? Crochet summer clothing currently. Lots of crop tops and lightweight cardigans.
Do you do any other fiber crafts?I cross-stitch on occasion and I’ve recently learned to knit and dye my own yarn.
Do you have any non-fiber related hobbies? My undergrad is in art education so I do a lot of painting and sculptures for the heck of it. I love making art in general.
What are you doing when you’re not crocheting?Reading, teaching students, painting, working out. I have a lot of things I do when I’m not crocheting.
Are there any crafters you would like to send a shout out to?Neither are crocheters but I want to give a shout out to Angela from Scribbler Experiment and Jen from JustAddJewelry. They’re amazing! Are there any big projects you are currently working on? Not really but i did just release a new market bag pattern.
Is there anything else you’d like us to know?I do love to design new things and I have a ton of patterns in the works to release this summer!
