January 23rd is National Pie Day! (Not to be confused with Pi Day on the 14th of March).
What better way to celebrate the holiday than with a free crochet pattern for these darling zipper pouch pie purses? (Actually I can think of one better way… eating PIE!) The good news about these zipper pie pouches is that they will last much longer than a consumable pie.
I love how customizable these pouches are. You can make any kind of pie you like and add any sort of embellishments. Maybe a lemon pie with a lemon wedge appliqué or a strawberry pie and a strawberry button! Chocolate cream pie, banana pie, cheesecake… okay, I’m getting a bit carried away with fantasies of pie!
I think these crochet pie purses would also be cute with a shoulder strap! The possibilities are endless and I can’t wait to see what you come up with. Tag me on Facebook or Instagram once yours is finished!
The best part of all is that these pie pouches are super easy to make and they work up very quickly! You could tag me in several pie purse pics before the day is over.
*I would just like to note that it is a happy coincidence that I ended up with a rainbow of pie. I just kept thinking of different slices to do and eventually I had a rainbow completely by accident!*

With 4.5mm crochet hook and crust colored yarn
Make foundation double crochets or double crochet into a chain to make your lattice crust.
Decide where you want each lattice piece to be. I sewed down the ends of all pieces going in one direction and then weaved in the lattice pieces going in the other direction and sewed down their ends. If you like you could also stitch the length of the pieces to your purse.
Attach your zipper
Cut your zipper to size if necessary. If you do, add a few stitches across the end where you want the zipper to stop. Embroider a back stitch (A blanket stitch would be fine as well) on your zipper, the approximate width of your crochet stitches (Does not need to be exact).
Using a smaller crochet hook (Mine was around a 2mm) SC through both the stitch on your purse and one of your embroidered stitches to join the purse to your zipper. Join along one side, at the ends join through the crochet stitch facing you, the corresponding embroidered stitches on both sides of your zipper, and the crochet stitch on the opposite side, then continue along the other edge.
**On the back side, work into the V stitches below your shells from when you crocheted into the 3rd loop, as seen below.**
